Detailed Job Description and Scope
As a First Class Welder/Fabricator, you occupy a senior technical position. You will handle projects that demand extreme accuracy and structural integrity. Your work directly impacts the safety and efficiency of industrial operations across Australia. The role involves working with heavy-gauge metals and complex assemblies.
You will work within a busy, fast-paced workshop environment. However, we maintain an organized and safe workspace for all employees. You will manage your tasks with minimal supervision. This autonomy allows you to demonstrate your mastery of the craft. Moreover, you will collaborate with lead engineers to refine manufacturing processes. Your input helps us maintain our reputation for excellence.
Core Responsibilities and Daily Operations
Your daily tasks involve a mix of technical fabrication and precision welding. Specifically, you will execute the following duties:
- Interpret Engineering Blueprints: You will read and analyze complex technical drawings. Accuracy at this stage prevents costly errors during fabrication.
- Material Preparation: You will select and prepare various metal alloys for production. This includes cutting, grinding, and shaping components to exact specifications.
- Multi-Process Welding: You will perform high-quality welds using MIG, TIG, and Stick techniques. We require proficiency in all welding positions to ensure structural strength.
- Structural Assembly: You will assemble large-scale components for mining and material handling equipment. This requires a deep understanding of structural geometry.
- Quality Inspections: You will conduct rigorous self-inspections of every joint and seam. We hold our staff to the highest international welding standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: You will ensure all welding machines and fabrication tools remain in peak condition.
- Site Collaboration: Occasionally, you will assist in site-specific troubleshooting for government projects.
The Technical Mastery Required
A First Class Welder must possess a unique blend of physical skill and theoretical knowledge. You understand the metallurgy behind every weld. You know how heat affects different types of steel. Consequently, you can prevent distortion and maintain tight tolerances.
Furthermore, you are proficient in using modern fabrication machinery. This includes hydraulic presses, guillotines, and CNC plasma cutters. At Meeke Engineering, we provide the tools you need to succeed. However, your hands-on skill remains our most valuable asset. We seek tradespeople who view welding as both a science and an art.
Career Advancement and Training
We encourage our staff to grow within the company. We offer opportunities to learn advanced fabrication techniques. Additionally, you may move into supervisory or quality control roles over time. We support continuous learning and professional certification.
Our facility serves as a hub for technical innovation. You will work alongside some of the most experienced boilermakers in Sydney. Therefore, you will naturally expand your knowledge through daily collaboration. We provide the mentorship necessary for you to reach your full potential.
